Travel advice please, oh flist

Seeking fen in Hong Kong and Albany
Over the next few months, I'm going to be travelling to Albany, Western Australia (October) and Hong Kong (November). Are there people on my flist from those places? If so, I'd love to meet you!

Drop me a comment or send email to cupidsbower[at]gmail[dot]com and we can sort out logistics.

Worthwhile academic conferences?
It's looking likely that I will be able to afford to travel overseas to an academic conference next year. \o/ But I'm wondering which one would be most valuable -- there are so many options!

Some of you may already be aware that I've been picking away at the topic of "Fanworks and Copyright" for a while now, with a focus on corporate raiding of the public domain and the free culture philosophy of various communities on the web. The main thrust of the paper has just started to come together, and I'm about ready to write an abstract.

I've been thinking maybe the 30th Annual International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts would be worthwhile, as they have sessions on both fanworks and folklore (which I'm very interested in at the moment), as well as F/SF/H.

Have any of you been to the ICFA conference before? Was it good value? Did you meet interesting people? Is there a fan conference on in the States that starts within a week of it?

Are there other cultural studies/lit/SF/media studies/copyright conferences that you think are worthwhile (any country, it doesn't have to be the US)?

Please tell me interesting things about upcoming conferences!

ETA: Or maybe this one:
