Vidding is not a life

Wow, it's been a while since I've really posted anything, hasn't it? I got a bit caught up in Stuff.

If you remember, waaaaaaaay back about six months ago, I was very excited about having spent a lot of money on Sony Vegas so that I could vid really pretty vids. And then, shortly afterwards, I moaned that the learning curve was more like a vertical line.

And since then you might have noticed that I've barely posted at all. In part that was because I got sick, and it lingered for weeks; but it was also because I've been in this bizarre slow-motion race against the clock. You see, I foolishly gave myself official, external deadlines, upon which I had to produce vids with my snazzy new software.

Oh em gee, as they say.

It's a great method for making sure you actually do work. But it's also a great method for becoming a hermit for six months and going kind of crazy with stress. *stares at you all with mad-scientist eyes* Of course, I also now know more about frames per second, bits per second, lossless codecs, and the horrors of low resolution monitors than I ever, ever wanted to. And the sad thing about it is that I'm still barely past being a rank amateur. I can't even make VirtualDubMod work properly! The hours I've spent installing codecs in a fruitless effort to get it to work as advertised. LOL. I'm a failed tech nerd. Is there anything sadder?

Anyway, I've been picking away at about seven different vids in that time, but about six weeks ago, it became clear which of them were the real contenders. So all the rest got put aside for the moment, and I finished those. Then spent about a million hours figuring out how to render them so they'd look gorgeous.

Six months, a hermity lifestyle, and a severe sleep deficit later and what do I have to show for it? Less than five minutes of remixed beauty. *facepalm*

Of course, it should never again take me so long to produce so little, because I won't need to learn how to do even the most basic things next time, and I won't make all those stupid mistakes that ate up time in re-editing (MovieMaker taught me some very bad habits).

But the weirdest part of the whole process is that I feel kind of lonely now I've finished. I swear, I've looked at those damn vids multiple times a day, every day, for over a month, and now they're done and I don't have to look at them any more, and I feel really peculiar. It's like an I-left-a-pot-on-the-stove feeling, mixed with an I-forgot-someone's-birthday feeling. Like I should go speak to my best friend, because I haven't seen them today.

I'm not sure what to do with myself. Just as well I'm off on a trip next week, to take my mind off it.

How are things with you? Done anything ginormously nerdy lately? Made any cool vids? Gimme links, I'd love to see! (Because I'm a glutton for punishment :)
