Day 2: Festivids Recap

This year I asked for a Wimbledon vid, and said, "What I love about Wimbledon is the physicality and competition, and how that's woven into the romance. If you can make a heart-pumping tennis vid, and include both the leads, that would be awesome."

And lo, it was done! \o/

The complete masterpost of all vids: Livejournal, Dreamwidth. And here's the Guess the Vidder post. :)

My other favourites roughly fell into two types: dance vids and intense character studies. Here are my top picks this year:

PS--Apparently Vimeo is having a glitch which means that the embedded Festivids using that service aren't working. If you hit this problem, just go onto the next rec, and try again later. It should be fixed quickly.

Day 1: DeanCas-Xmas Roundup

Time for the big reveal for deancas_xmas. It was an utterly fabulous fest this year. The gift(s) for me were awesome, and I'm also very chuffed with how my own offering turned out. So with no further ado, on with the links...

What I made

Songvid: Movin' On by cupidsbow (SPN, Dean/Castiel, PG-15)
Summary: The story of two fast cars and a shared passion for the road.
Note: This is a constructed reality vid, answering a prompt asking for Dean and Castiel as race car drivers. Yes, you read that right. I vidded them as race car drivers! The vid is an ode to muscle cars, and it turned out kind of awesome, even if I say so myself. :)

Made for me

Songvid: human by akemi42 (SPN, Dean/Castiel, PG)
Summary: Dean builds a robot using spare parts from Bobby's junkyard. The rest is history.
Note: I am so impressed akemi42 chose this prompt, because a robot AU isn't exactly an easy concept to vid, and ze does such an interesting job of it. This is a wonderful character study of Castiel's intrinsic inhumanity, and the ways in which he's change due to Dean's influence. So cool.

Dropouts I adopted

Fiction: Here Open the Gates by takadainmate (SPN, Dean/Castiel, PG)
Summary: Death watches Dean Winchester. After eons of existence the feeling of something different, something original, is a novelty.
Note: This story uses the inspired conceit of Death as the narrator, who watches over Dean's shenanigans rather as a human would watch over an ant in an ant farm. The result is a surprisingly engrossing character study, and an all-round fabulous read.

Fiction: A World of Gods and Monsters one, two by janie_tangerine (SPN, Dean/Castiel, R)
Summary: Wherein Castiel will do anything so that Dean doesn't stay dead.
Note: This was a seriously under-appreciated story in the fest, which was a real shame as it's a gloriously gothic take on Dean and Castiel. The author cleverly re-works elements of Frankenstein while still making the characters recognisably Dean and Castiel. It's brooding and creepy and obsessive, and really good. Read the warnings, though.

You can find these recs in full on diigo.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'The Bud of the Bud' by lady_deathangel (PG-13)
This is a sweet, gorgeous story about growing up and growing into love. Highly recced.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'Adjusted to the Dark' by apokteino (PG-13)
A wonderful hurt/comfort story, with a great action scene and an interesting case. Lovely.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'these three' by tabi_jeff (PG-13)
A charming kidfic, in which Castiel returns in a child-sized vessel, and he and Dean finally find a way to communicate what they need from each other.

SPN No Pairing, 'One Small Miracle' by thinlizzy2 (G)
What an awesome fixit for Castiel in S7.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'My Marble Guardian' by lady_drace (PG-13)
A gorgeous AU, in a magic realist style. Lovely.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'Some Small Cheer' by peachpai (PG-13)
Dean and Castiel get a cat. Naaaw. Understated and adorable.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'Left Behind' by kijikun (R)
Adorable eggfic. Need I say more?

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'Forks In the Road' by misachan (R)
Fabulous dreamscape adventure, which riffs delightfully on canon, and has a low key but perfect resolution.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'The Drugs Don't Work' by anon (NC-17)
Set during The End, with a fabulously bitter and world-weary Castiel viewpoint, and a glorious last hurrah.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'The Rare Gift' by triedunture (NC-17)
This treads the line of being too schmoopy, but gets away with it due to awesome angel-style sex.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'Once Over' by sparseparsley (NC-17)
Fabulously done kink fic, with a focus on voyeurism and exhibitionism. It's made by the way the kinks are genuine characterisation. Highly recced.

SPN RPF Jensen/Misha, 'The Best Christmas Ever?' by scarletxfields (NC-17)
School teacher AU, in which Jensen is pining after the phys ed teacher, to hilarious and happy effect.

SPN Dean/Castiel, 'Untitled' by amyeyl (G)
Castiel goes on a unicorn hunt. LOL.

12 Days of Cliche: Day 12 - Vid: 'Wake' by cupidsbow

Are you sad? Here we are at the end of the fest... it whizzed by so fast, didn't it? But, wow, what a lot of stuff we made!

To finish things off, I'm posting my favourite of all the songvids I've made to date. It's about Jack, the essential factness of Jack. Oh, Jack. (If you're interested in the technical side, there are some more thoughts behind the cut.)

If you'd like to play with us by sharing a cliche -- a ficlet or art or whatever fanwork takes your fancy -- link it in comments here before Friday, and I'll add it to my round-up post. There's always room for more cliches, people! :)

Thanks for coming on the journey with us. Hope and I have had a ball and we hope you have too. And now, onto the vid of ultimate Jackness...

12 Days of Cliche: Day 11 - Fic: 'Golden Ratio' by Hope

Wow, we are so close the end of our fest. I'm feeling a bit sad. But, on the other hand, there's this fantastic timey-wimey, romantic piece of perfection from Hope! I defy anyone to feel bad after reading it. :)

ETA: Also, how ironic is it that my timey-wimey story ended up full of porn, and Hope's is PG-13? LOL.

12 Days of Cliche: Day 6 - Fic: 'Kiss the Boys Goodbye' by Hope

Hope has indulged me today, by writing this gorgeous character study of Jack, based on my songvid, '1941'. It's made of win! I love the way she writes this Jack -- self-absorbed and hedonistic. *happy sigh*

Title: Kiss the Boys Goodbye: DreamWidth, LiveJournal
Author: [personal profile] hope
Fandom: Torchwood/Doctor Who
Pairing: Various implied
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Jack is a glutton, and the 1940s on Earth are his feast of choice.
